It's here again!

The diary of an Irishman:

December 5th: The white stuff is here again! It keeps falling from the sky and let me tell you - it is cold! Bolder neighbours went out of their houses and some came back limping and swearing!
The airport is closed, there are long traffic jams on the highway and I can hear a person outside shouting bad words trying to take his car out of his garage.
When is this madness going to stop???

Viva San Miguel!

For those of you who don’t know we have a new best friend and this has been so for a while. Ever since we set our eyes on San Miguel about a year ago nothing has been the same!

Our new amigo is strong yet tender, cool yet warms your heart, dazzling yet calms you down and makes your head spin. We don’t meet often but when we do we always leave with a smile on our lips and warmness in our stomachs.

Enter San Miguel!

Life is a... piece of cheesecake

To tell you the truth my husband’s eyes started to well up when he had the first bite of the cheesecakes. No, not because they were so bad, but because of their deliciousness. That and the fact that his wife had finally made him something sweet to eat J

Yes, it doesn’t happen often for me to make something more exquisite in the kitchen than a salad for lunch, but this cheesecake turned out to be one of my biggest triumphs. Delicious, just the right sweetness and texture and a lot of it!

OK, here is the recipe, because I promised Annie – it will be both in English and in Bulgarian. I guarantee great results!

Woogie-boogie cheesecake recipe with blueberries:

For the base ***
  • Butter cookies – about 300 g ***
  • Butter – about 150 g ***
For the cream ***
  • Cream cheese – 300 g ***
  • Ricotta cheese/Philadelphia cheese – 300 g ***
  • Sugar – 1 coffee cup *** ч.
  • Sour cream – 1 coffee cup *** ч.
  • Juice from a lemon – 1 table spoon *** л.
  • Vanilla extract - 1 table spoon *** л.
  • Blueberry jamabout one jar ***
The biscuits are smashed and mixed well with the butter. The batter is placed at the bottom of the baking tin or of whatever you will put the cheesecakes in. The cream cheese and the Ricotta cheese (Philadelphia cheese) are whipped with the sugar until they become fluffy. Then the sour cream is added, the lemon juice and the vanilla extract. They should be mixed well. The cream is then poured over the biscuit and butter base. Then the blueberry jam is put on top of that but instead of the blueberries you can put strawberry, raspberry or blackberry jam. Then place in the fridge of about half an hour and we are ready to enjoy!

What is happiness

Some people try to define happiness all their lives. For me it turns out to be a camera!
Yes, my friends, i am once again cameraful after being cameraless for some time. My hubby (who is one in a million) bought it for me and i think he is even more enthusiastic about it than i am :)
I love you, baby (the husband, not so much the camera)!!!

Yeeeeey!!!!

Glee Gives Me Goosebumps

Well, I am officially a Gleek and I am proud of it!!! For those of you who do not know what that is – I am hooked onto a show called Glee where teenagers sing their hearts out. What can I say – they way they sing, the songs they sing, the choreography, everything – it just gives me goosebumps. And there aren’t that many things in life that do that, so I appreciate it when I find something good.

Here is just a taste (I found it veeeery difficult to pick which clip to put here): ENJOY!!!!!

I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my biiiiike

Lately the adventurer in me has been shouting for some attention so I decided to do something interesting and different this weekend. I found a great deal for a cycling tour of Belfast and off we went all enthusiastic and excited (some more than others). I hadn’t been on a bicycle for a long time but it all came back very fast – it was like riding a bike :D

Now imagine the following picture: six people on bikes following our guide like a flock of small geese following their momma. The third little goose (me, me, me!!!) with a huge smile on its face and shouting from time to time: “Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Yeeeeeeeyyy!!! Yooohooooooooooooo!!!” The time when I wasn’t smiling I was panting heavily with my tongue sticking out from my mouth, cheating by pushing my bike up a hill (a huuuuge one!), fighting off unwelcome flies from flying in my face/mouth/ear and brushing off the sweat.

You know, they say that when you go back to your parents’ house you turn into a child again behaving like a teenager but for me I think this happens when I get on a bike. Go figure!

What NOT to do when near birds

I recently learned that Rosskata hates all birds flying above his head and especially those huge seagulls here. Every time he spots one flying above him he gets nervous and starts jumping around in the hope of avoiding it pooping on his head/shoulder/shoe. It is just hilarious to see him walk around a lamp post when there is a seagull perched on it!

Anyway, about two weeks ago we decided to rummage through a carboot sale nearby (which we unfortunately couldn't do as it was closed). As we live on the sea, seagulls are everywhere and most often than not in big flocks. As we were walking down the street a huge flock of seagulls started flying above us and i made a huge mistake of lifting my head and watching them... with my mouth wide open! It took me about 1 minute to realize what i was doing and i snapped it shut. And i tell you, i did that just in the nick of time as a couple of seconds later one of the birds decided our heads were as good as place as any and bombarded us!

That was sooooo close!
